This is ilustration for book cover for Vladimir Nazor's "Bijeli Jelen" (The White Deer"), fantasy-fable novel. It is about poor girl who get lost in the forest, but adopted by animals; with time she grew stronger and became a kind of queen of the forest. But as there is a huge gap between animals and humans, she was banned from forest because being to much sympathetic with humans, and return happily to became real queen of the nearby human kingdom.
White deer is part of the ancient animal prophecy which came true while Zlatokosa (the name of the girl - Golden haired one) was in the Forest.

Prince Humorabi of Plusopotamy

This is cover page for Ivan Balenovic book "Prince Humorabi of Plusopotamy". It is in fact, cover page, chin and back side of the book (therefore gaps in composition for titles and description text).
At the cover page are Humorabi, Urma and Tasel, three young heroes traveling the imaginary pseudo-world of middle east, meeting strange lands (and their kings!)
Book is considered children-book, therefore warm and colorful style. Prince name Humorabi is allusion - but opposite to - Hammurabi, the Persian ruler. It is author allusion also on Humor+rabbi, Teacher of Humor (brightness of life), so therefore his shiny smile.
World they are coming through is not standard orc-elf universe, but lands of strange kings and kingdoms (strange in their customs but also in appearance).

On the cover page they are running through the Valley of Kings, a swamp where thrown rulers of the kingdom are fighting between themselves in envy and anger. The guy after our fellowship is Skrgutin, their "leader" (they have no leader, they are anarchist mob) with stone crown.

It was Photoshop (total paint over scanned line drawing), about 40 hours of work.

I also did 10 inside ilustrations of the book, ill post them in portfolio.

CC wellcome!

Kirsten Boie - Paule ist ein Glücksgriff

I did this frontpage for a book (which won Andersen prize) to be published in Croatia from German writter for young people and children, it is about 8 years old black boy adopted by German family, and is describing his inner life and problems of society accepting him.
Book attitude is positive, optimistic, so i choosed an happy occasion where our hero acts as angel Gabriel in Nativity Christmass school play.

There was problem, because young girl playing Mary was in panic finding out that the baby Jesus is real baby and not an toy (it is a little brother of one boy, Pauls friend), but Paul saved the show because he knew to soothe that baby from before.... and was brave enough.

When the schoolplay was planned Paul was choosen to play Melchior but he insisted to play angel Gabriel; there was an incident because no one is representing angels as black people... but Paul wanted so much to play angel!

Lord God is lord of all people, so there is logical conclusion: why cannot an black boy be an angel ?

I did the sketch pre-visualisation in Poser, with some dynamic cloth setup (used some Renderosity and DAZ 3d purchased content, adjusted them and morphed to my needs), add some props I modeled in Wings, rendered out linework for authorisation. After approval, i tweaked the scene in poser some more, did an render, and heavily overpainted it in Photoshop, to get rid of rigidness....and to add some more props.

C&C wellcome, thanks!

This picture is final study for the large Oil on Canvas painting commision.
I have firstly done b/w sketch, which (after approvement) I have scanned; and using ArtRage 2 and Photoshop, I came to this. I mainly used ArtRage for robust painting, and Photoshop for fine color correction and enhancement.
This is done completely from the head (no reference picture), so I had lots of freedom to draw all kind of plants and compose this freely (following few guidelines from the customer). Therefore the title Pseudo-Zagorje (Zagorje is part of the Croatia which may have landscapes like this)!
